A magnitude 7 earthquake has hit off the coast of Taiwan, the island's meteorological service reported, quoted by world agencies.
The epicenter of the quake was 63 kilometers southeast of the port city of Keelung, home to about 397,000 people, and at a depth of 73 kilometers.
There are currently no reports of injuries or damage, and no tsunami threat has been announced.
The National Fire Service said damage assessment is underway.
Taiwan is located near the intersection of two tectonic plates and earthquakes often occur there, Reuters notes.
More than 100 people died in 2016 in an earthquake in the southern part in Taiwan, and in 1999 a 7.3 magnitude earthquake killed over 2,000 people.
