Greek farmers have renewed their protest actions, which were temporarily weakened during the Christmas holidays, reports the newspaper “Kathimerini“. The renewed protests have again led to difficulties on major transport arteries, with differences emerging among farmers themselves on whether to renew dialogue with the government, reports News.bg.
On the country's main north-south highway, in the Thessaloniki region, the lane towards Athens remained closed at the Malgara toll booth, after being briefly opened during the holidays. Traffic towards Thessaloniki is expected to be symbolically stopped on Monday, December 29, and on Tuesday both directions will be reopened to ease post-holiday traffic.
In Thessaly - Greece's largest agricultural region - farmers have once again closed the Larissa overpass near Nikaia, which was open for Christmas. Further protests are planned for December 28 and 29, including the temporary lifting of taxi barriers in Makrychori and a complete blockade of nearby ring roads.
Protest blockades have also been restored in Patras, in western Greece, with traffic being diverted onto local roads. At the Promachon border crossing with Bulgaria, truck traffic remains suspended, with drivers reporting queues of over 15 kilometers on the Bulgarian side. The crossing is expected to be open to all vehicles on New Year's Eve and the holiday itself.
