The Saudi-led Arab coalition announced the end of its military operation in the port of Mukalla in eastern Yemen after strikes on military cargoes destined for the Southern Yemen Transitional Council.
„The limited military operation in the port of Mukalla has ended and port operations have resumed“, the Arab coalition said in a statement carried by the Saudi news agency SPA.
„There were no casualties or collateral damage as a result of the operation“, the statement added.
Earlier, the coalition announced that it was conducting an operation in the port of Mukalla, the capital of the eastern province of Hadramawt, warning civilians to leave the port. The coalition revealed that it had struck military cargo delivered on two ships from the UAE, destined for separatist forces in the south who have seized power in Yemen's strategically important eastern provinces.
Earlier, the leader of Yemen's Presidential Council for the Rule of Law, Rashad al-Alimi, asked Saudi Arabia for military assistance to force southern forces to withdraw from the eastern provinces they seized in early December.
