More than 100 terror suspects have been detained in Turkey, including those who planned New Year's Eve attacks, the Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office reported.
„Arrest warrants have been issued for 115 suspects. On Tuesday evening, 110 suspects were detained as a result of an operation carried out at 114 locations. The wanted persons include 41 suspects linked to the militants who carried out the Yalova attack and were planning similar attacks in the Istanbul province on New Year's Day, and 13 with contacts with terrorist groups, the statement said.
Among those detained were people who had contact with a “teacher“ who held illegal classes in a mosque and called for violence, as well as those who raised money for terrorists in Syria and supported militants on social media.
A day earlier, police killed six supporters of “Islamic State“ militants in the Yalova province.“ Three law enforcement officers were killed and eight others were wounded. The counter-terrorism operation lasted nearly 8 hours and five suspects were detained.
Last week, Turkey's National Intelligence Directorate detained an ISIS fighter who was planning a New Year's attack. The Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office has issued arrest warrants for 137 suspects.
