The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today that Romania is joining the US PURL mechanism ("Priority Ukraine Requirements List"), to support Ukraine's defense, and is allocating 50 million euros for this purpose, reports Agerpres, quoted by BTA.
According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, the government has adopted a decision by which Romania joins with a contribution of 50 million euros to the countries that contribute to the US-proposed "Priority Ukraine Requirements List". In this way, Bucharest joins the majority of European allies and other countries that share the same perspective, the statement noted.
The allocation of the amount for PURL was made in compliance with the budget ceiling for 2025, the ministry noted.
Through the PURL mechanism, the US side aims for a direct and commensurate participation of partner countries in support of Ukraine and the creation of a coordinated framework for action that reflects the principles of effectiveness, predictability and strategic responsibility, the statement also stated.
"Romania's participation in the PURL mechanism contributes directly to strengthening regional security and is fully consistent with Romania's commitments within NATO and with the Strategic Partnership with the United States of America," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also noted.
