According to Politico, the "coalition of the willing" could be the basis of a new alliance, but without the US.
Senior European officials quoted by Politico believe that Trump is no longer a reliable trading partner for Europe, "let alone a reliable security ally", writes Focus.
"A change in US policy is underway and in many ways it is permanent. Postponement is not the solution. Organized and coordinated steps towards a new reality are needed", said a senior European government official.
Politico notes that Europe may try to defend itself without American help. A new alliance could therefore emerge, based on the so-called "coalition of the willing" created to help Ukraine.
"The "coalition of the willing" format could potentially form the basis for a new security alliance in an era when the US no longer supports NATO and European security. The new agreement does not exclude cooperation with America, but it does not take it for granted," the publication notes.
