Europe will react to Russian President Vladimir Putin's invitation to a Gaza Peace Council with a "mixture of indignation and impotence".
This was stated by Alexei Pushkov, head of the Federation Council's Information Policy Committee, quoted by TASS.
Putin has received an invitation to join the "Peace Council" in Gaza and this possibility is being explored, the Russian leader's press secretary Dmitry Peskov announced earlier. The Trump administration is proposing that countries pay at least $1 billion for a permanent seat on the council.
"Trump once again proves that he plays only his own game - and not someone else's, and with little respect for his allies. One can imagine the reaction to Putin's invitation to Europe: a mixture of indignation and frustration," Pushkov wrote on his Telegram channel.
He also noted that Trump, as a businessman, is trying to "monetize" US foreign policy. He secured a deal for natural resources from Ukraine, wants control over Venezuela's oil and expects the Peace Council to replenish the US treasury, the senator believes.
"It is difficult to imagine that the request for $1 billion would apply to the leaders of leading countries, such as Egypt. Trump also invited his president to the Council. "In the case of the Egyptian president, without whom the Gaza Council would look rather strange, it is still a question of who should pay whom for his participation," the head of the Federation Council committee also wrote.
