The New York Times: Pentagon Not Planning Military Operation Against Greenland - 1

Despite public statements by US President Donald Trump about the possibility of forcibly seizing Greenland, the Pentagon has not received any instructions to plan a military operation against the island. This is reported by The New York Times, quoted by Focus.

According to American officials, although Pentagon officials are planning for any military contingencies, they have not yet received an order to plan a US military operation against Greenland or to calculate the consequences of such an operation.

At the same time, Pentagon officials, who requested anonymity, noted that military planning for potential scenarios is standard practice.

Military analysts believe that from a purely technical point of view, seizing the island would not pose significant difficulties: Greenland is sparsely populated, and a US military base is already located on its territory. However, defense officials have quietly expressed concern that the US president continues to publicly allow the use of force.

Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark - a US ally in NATO, whose military has participated in joint operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Any military action against the island would be considered an attack on an Alliance member.

Former and current US officials warn that even discussing such a scenario could undermine transatlantic unity and create an unprecedented crisis in NATO.

Let us recall that Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen stated the need to prepare the population and authorities for a possible military scenario around the island, amid statements by US President Donald Trump.
