It seems to me that we will not be able to reach an understanding. I am a free man who serves the Hungarian people. You are a man in a desperate position who has been unable or unwilling to end the war for four years - despite the President of the United States providing all possible assistance for this. This was written by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on his X platform profile, addressing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Focus reports.
"Therefore, no matter how much you flatter me, we cannot support your military efforts. The Ukrainian people, of course - despite your carefully chosen insults - can still count on us to continue supplying your country with electricity and fuel, and we will also continue to support refugees arriving from Ukraine," Orbán wrote.
The Hungarian prime minister concluded by saying that "life will sort out the rest and everyone will get what they deserve".
During a press conference in Budapest, Orbán said that Hungary would not finance Ukraine in 2026, nor would it support loans from the European Union for these purposes.
Currently, Ukraine's progress towards joining the EU is blocked by Hungary, which requires unanimous approval at every stage. The Financial Times, citing senior officials involved in the discussions, said that if the US signs a final peace plan, it would force Budapest to back down.
