Power supply to all parts of Greenland's capital Nuuk was cut off on Saturday evening due to a power line failure, local power supplier „Nukissiorfiit“ reported, quoted by Reuters.
The company is working to provide backup power. The failure is believed to have occurred due to bad weather, the „Nukissiorfiit“ website says.
According to eyewitness accounts, the power outage occurred simultaneously throughout the city.
„Nukissiorfiit“ and the Greenland police published statements on „Facebook“ about the power outage, but did not provide details.
The power outage followed an update to emergency preparedness guidelines by Greenland authorities earlier this week, in response to US President Donald Trump's stated interest in controlling the autonomous Danish Arctic island with a population of just 57,000.
