Ankara: Damascus will lose international support if it violates the four basic principles set by its neighbors - 1

If Syria violates the four basic principles set by regional countries as key, the Syrian government will lose international support, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said.

Fidan recalled that after former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad left the country, regional countries met with European and American representatives in the first week. They outlined what “they want to see from any government in Damascus“ and set four priorities.

“The absence of threats to neighboring countries, the absence of cooperation with terrorist organizations, the absence of persecution of minorities and other ethnic and religious groups, as well as the territorial integrity and unity of the country. These are the four main points that everyone would like to see,“ he said in a conversation with a TV presenter.

The countries of the region have conveyed these four principles to the Syrian government, the foreign minister specified.

“If you can provide this, everyone will support you.“ “If you fail or oppose these principles, people will stop supporting you and start acting against you,“ Fidan stressed.

According to him, the interim president of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, is a “reasonable man“. Fidan specified that he accepted all the conditions.

In early December 2024, the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria collapsed. The family dynasty that had ruled the country for over 50 years lost power in just 12 days after an offensive by rebels from the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group.

Ahmed al-Sharaa (formerly known as Abu Muhammad al-Julani), head of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, became the new interim leader of Syria.

In late March, he unveiled the composition of the country's new government, calling it a "government of creation and change."
