German general describes ‘worst-case scenario’ of Russian attack on NATO - 1

Lieutenant General Gerald Funke, head of the Bundeswehr Logistics Command, has described a “worst-case scenario“ for a hypothetical Russian attack on NATO.

It involves a situation in which Germany finds itself at the epicenter of hostilities from the first hours of the conflict, The Times reports.

The military officer noted that during a possible clash, thousands of soldiers could be injured per day, which would put enormous pressure on German medical facilities.

“While I was in Afghanistan, I unfortunately had a large but manageable number of wounded, now I have to plan for the possibility of thousands of wounded soldiers per day. The more "The deeper you go into it, the more complicated it becomes and the harder it is to imagine," he said.

Funke explained that in the first weeks of the conflict, thousands of soldiers from NATO allies will arrive in German seaports. From there, they will have to be transported east by road and rail. The lieutenant general fears that they could be deterred by "Russian sabotage, cyberattacks and possibly long-range strikes."

"What worries me the most right now is the hybrid side, the covert side: sabotage, sleeper cells and some targeted attacks. I cannot rule out the use of long-range missiles. But I believe the hybrid threat is very high," he said.
