The reconstruction of the Gaza Strip will not begin until the area is demilitarized and the tunnels built by "Hamas" are destroyed, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said last night, quoted by DPA.
Netanyahu said he was determined to implement the peace plan proposed by the US, which calls for the disarmament of "Hamas". He reiterated that this could be done "the easy way or the hard way. But in any case, it will be done".
The Palestinian movement "Hamas" has so far rejected disarmament.
The Gaza Strip was largely destroyed in the war between Israel and "Hamas", which began after militants from the Palestinian Islamist movement invaded Israel on October 7, 2023, killing about 1,200 people and taking 250 more hostage. Israel then launched a massive attack on the coastal enclave that reduced it to rubble.
Netanyahu reiterated that Israel would retain control of the Gaza Strip, but did not give further details.
The Israeli prime minister had previously warned Tehran not to attack Israel, threatening that if the Islamic Republic did so, he would "respond with force the likes of which Iran has never seen before".
