Orban: Ukrainian leadership has crossed the line - 1

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said today that "the Ukrainian leadership has crossed the line", stressing that Hungary did not seek conflict but has been the target of attacks for days, MTI news agency reported.

Orban began his Facebook post with a quote from Hungarian national poet Sándor Petőfi, writing: "… but not our homeland!"

The prime minister said that neither the president, nor the foreign minister of Ukraine, nor threats from extremist military groups would deter the Hungarian government from defending the interests of the Hungarian people.

He stressed that the government would not send financial resources to Ukraine, stating that this money was "better in a Hungarian family than in the bathroom of some Ukrainian oligarch".

Orbán added that Hungary would not allow a ban on the import of Russian oil and gas, as without them it would not be possible to maintain low utility costs and affordable energy prices for Hungarian households.

"Nor will we allow Ukraine to be admitted to the European Union in two years in violation of EU law, because that would mean bringing war in," he said.

According to Orbán, while Hungary has a "patriotic government", such decisions will not be made in Kiev or Brussels.

"Ukraine also knows this. That is why they want a new, Ukraine-friendly government in Budapest, and that is why they threaten us at every turn," the prime minister added.

"The answer lies with Petőfi," Orbán concluded in his publication.
