Denmark deploys former Soviet ferry in Greenland, converted into luxury floating barracks - 1

Danish authorities plan to deploy a floating barracks in Greenland, created on the basis of the Soviet ferry “Konstantin Simonov“, converted in 2014 into the MS “Ocean Endeavour“, Bild reported.

“Some Danish and other soldiers participating in the Arctic Endurance exercise in Greenland next year will be accommodated in the Ocean Endeavour hotel from early February. The ship will dock in the port of Nuuk,“ the newspaper quotes a statement from the Danish Armed Forces.

It is noted that the floating barracks will also avoid putting additional pressure on hotels in the capital of Greenland.

Bild emphasizes that the ship was built and launched in 1982 by the Soviet Far Eastern Shipping Company under the name “Konstantin Simonov“. It was subsequently acquired by the American company SunStone, which completed its renovation in 2014 and put it up for sale in October 2025.

Among the amenities for the soldiers, the newspaper highlights a restaurant, three lounges, an observation deck, a library, a sauna, a heated outdoor pool and common rooms.
