German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has called for a stronger NATO in Europe, Reuters reports. He stressed that the Alliance must always reach out to cooperate with the United States.
In a speech to the German parliament, the chancellor stressed that Europe will no longer succumb to threats of new tariffs.
We recall that US President Donald Trump threatened to impose additional tariffs on European countries opposing his intention to take control of Greenland. A few hours later, however, he changed his position and announced that he would not impose new tariffs.
Tensions arose between NATO members after Trump said that US allies in Afghanistan had avoided frontline service. The German defense minister demanded an apology from the US president. The British prime minister called Trump's words offensive.
