Partial budget paralysis of the federal government in the United States comes into effect - 1

The US Senate today adopted a package of budget spending laws that should allow the upcoming paralysis of the federal government to be as short-lived as possible, reported Agence France-Presse.

After hours of delay, the Senate adopted the package with 71 votes "in favor" against 29 "against", but the House of Representatives will not be able to convene until Monday to vote on the texts, meaning that the partial budget paralysis will take effect at midnight Eastern Time today (05:00 GMT), Reuters notes.

The texts are the result of an agreement between US President Donald Trump and Democrats, who are demanding reforms to his immigration policy after the recent events in Minneapolis, which caused a wide public outcry.

This will leave several departments without funding and will have to put some of their employees on forced leave, as happened between October and November last year, during the previous government shutdown.

In the context of the operations of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) in Minneapolis, Democrats refuse to accept the new budget proposed for the Department of Homeland Security and demand that the government adopt reforms in the immigration agency ICE, which they say is out of control.

"The only thing that can slow our country down is another long and damaging shutdown of the federal government," the Republican president said on his social network "Truth Social".
