Ukraine to pay IMF nearly $188 million by Sunday - 1

Ukraine must pay the International Monetary Fund (IMF) its largest one-time payment for 2026, amounting to nearly $188 million, by Sunday, RIA Novosti reported, citing the fund's payment schedule.

According to the IMF, Kiev must pay interest on its debt by midnight Saturday night Washington time, as well as regular installments for the use of the fund's resources in the total amount of 136,038,500 special drawing rights (SDRs).

According to the IMF's official exchange rate as of January 27, one SDR is equivalent to $1.379. Thus, Kiev's mandatory payment amounts to approximately $187.6 million.

For comparison, the largest single payment in 2025 was also due in February and amounted to over 161 million SDRs, or approximately $220 million.

Earlier in January, Ukraine's next payment to the IMF expired, amounting to approximately $171.9 million.

According to the IMF schedule, Ukraine's next financial obligation to the IMF is due on February 24, 2026. This includes the repayment of funds provided to Ukraine through the IMF's main lending facility, financed from the resources of IMF member countries.

In addition, in February-April 2026, Ukraine is due to make several more large payments on previously received loans, according to IMF data analyzed by the agency.
