German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius currently sees no signs that Russia seriously wants peace. He stated this in an interview with the RND publication, Focus reports.
"As for Ukraine, it must be admitted that the US president has added momentum to the peace talks. However, for now I do not see any signs that Russia seriously wants peace“, - Pistorius notes.
He emphasizes that Russia continues to bomb Ukraine with unprecedented intensity.
"During the negotiations in Abu Dhabi, Putin bombed Ukraine as he has almost never done in this war. This has nothing to do with a military confrontation. This is terror directed exclusively against civilians - in winter at minus 20 degrees," the German minister emphasized.
According to Pistorius, when it comes to the substance of the negotiations, Russian President Vladimir Putin always sticks to his maximalist demands and nowhere shows a willingness to compromise.
Regarding the agreement on a one-week pause in attacks on Kiev, Pistorius expressed great doubts about Moscow's seriousness.
"If Putin were serious about the negotiations in Abu Dhabi, he would not have had to be asked. He would not only have stopped the attacks on Kiev because of the severe cold, but also throughout the country. I have great doubts that Moscow takes this pause in attacks seriously," he concluded.
We recall that the day before, US President Donald Trump said that he had personally asked Russian President Vladimir Putin not to shell Kiev and other Ukrainian cities for a week. According to Trump, he agreed.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky later thanked the US president for his role as a mediator in relations between Kiev and Moscow
