The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps - the military backbone of the regime in Tehran, is not planning military exercises in the Strait of Hormuz, an Iranian official said, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.
On Thursday, state television Press TV announced that such maneuvers would take place today and tomorrow.
"There is no plan for the Guards to conduct military exercises there and there has been no official announcement about it. "Only media reports that are not true," the official told Reuters today.
The drills in this key strait, through which a significant part of oil exports pass, were announced by Press TV amid tensions between Iran and the United States, whose President Donald Trump has threatened to strike the Islamic Republic if it does not agree to a deal on its nuclear program.
The United States "will not tolerate dangerous actions" by Tehran in the Strait of Hormuz, the US Central Command (CENTCOM), which is responsible for the Middle East, warned on Friday.
