The first stage of the inclusion of the first nuclear power plant "Akkuyu", which Turkey is building near Mersin (Southeastern Turkey) in partnership with the Russian "Rosatom", has been successfully completed, the online publication "Star" reported, citing a statement from the Russian state nuclear energy company, BTA reported.

In addition, the transportation and installation of the transformers have been completed. The statement states that the installation of high-voltage elements on the transformers, cooling, control and management systems continues.

Energy specialists define Turkey's first nuclear power plant as a facility that will bring Turkey to the forefront in electricity production and will have a significant impact not only on the country's economy, but also on that of the entire region.

The “Akkuyu“ project envisages the construction of four units, each with a capacity of 1,200 megawatts. It was supposed to be put into operation at the end of 2025, but due to delays, this was postponed to this year. On January 19, Turkey's Minister of Energy Alparslan Bayraktar and the Director of “Rosatom“ Sergey Likhachev visited the nuclear power plant to monitor the progress of the project.
