New sanctions against Moscow! EU targets rare metals - 1

The European Union is considering a new package of sanctions against Russia amid the ongoing attacks on Ukraine, writes Bloomberg. This time, however, valuable rare metals such as iridium, rhodium, platinum and copper may be included in the ban lists, writes Focus.

The ban on the import of these raw materials from Russia to the EU is planned against the backdrop of their extremely limited supply and high prices. If adopted, the restrictions could severely affect the largest Russian mining and processing company "Norilsk Nickel" owned by billionaire Vladimir Potanin, which has not been subject to EU sanctions so far.

Additionally, the new package of restrictions may include a ban on providing maritime services to Russia in oil exports. This effectively means that European companies will not be able to transport and insure petroleum products.
