Turkey seeks prison for six people for poisoning German family - 1

Turkish prosecutors have filed manslaughter charges against six suspects in connection with the death of a German-Turkish family who died while on vacation in Istanbul, the Anadolu Agency reported today, quoted by BTA.

Five of the suspects, including employees of a pest control company and the hotel manager, are charged with "manslaughter due to negligence", the agency notes. Prosecutors are seeking sentences of two years and eight months to more than 22 years.

A hotel employee faces a separate charge carrying a potential sentence of up to 15 years, the agency added.

The indictment has been filed with the court, awaiting official approval.

A father, mother and their two young children from Hamburg, who are originally from Turkey, fell ill in mid-November and later died. A forensic report found they were poisoned by an insecticide used at the hotel after authorities initially suspected food poisoning.
