Russia to continue oil supplies to Cuba despite US pressure - 1

Russia intends to continue supplying oil to Cuba, as it has done in recent years. This was stated by the Russian Ambassador to Havana, Viktor Coronelli, quoted by „Reuters“.

„We expect this practice to continue“, the diplomat said, without going into further details about the volumes or conditions of the supplies.

The statement comes against the backdrop of a tougher tone from the United States. President Donald Trump announced that Washington had begun talks with „the highest-ranking representatives“ of Cuba after his administration designated the island nation as an „unusual and exceptional threat“ to US national security. Trump also threatened to impose tariffs on any country that supplies oil to communist-ruled Cuba.

Meanwhile, the United States has taken steps to block oil supplies to Cuba, including from Venezuela. This has had serious consequences for the island - sharply rising food and transportation prices, acute fuel shortages and prolonged power outages, including in the capital, Havana.
