Two people died and at least 39 people were injured when a tram derailed in Milan, Italy, ANSA reported.
The incident occurred in the city center, on the Vittorio Veneto Boulevard, BTA specified.
During the derailment, the tram hit several people on the street. One of them ended up under the vehicle and died. Many of the injured were passengers on the tram.
Milan recently hosted the Winter Olympics, which attracted many athletes and tourists to the city. The city is set to host the Paralympic Games.
During the opening ceremony of the Winter Games, a skit was shown in which the President of Italy Sergio Mattarella travels by tram to the “San Siro“ stadium, where the ceremony was held. In the skit, the tram was driven by motorcycle champion Valentino Rossi.
