German Chancellor Friedrich Merz claims that Europeans will not accept a deal on Ukraine without their participation. He told reporters during a visit to Washington.
“We want to reach solutions here, but solutions that include the Europeans. We are not ready to accept a deal that is made behind our backs,“ Merz said. He reportedly told US President Donald Trump. “I also said that there will be no deal without the Europeans,” the chancellor added. "I have the impression that the US president now understands better what is at stake and what the Europeans' opinions are," Merz said.
The Russian side has repeatedly stressed that the Europeans will not be able to bring any constructive agenda to the negotiation process, since they are effectively a party to the Ukrainian conflict.
