Trump says he should participate in choosing Iran's next supreme leader - 1

US President Donald Trump said he should personally participate in choosing Iran's next supreme leader, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

"(Ayatollah Ali) Khamenei's son is unacceptable to me. We want someone who will bring harmony and peace to Iran," Trump said in an interview with the website "Axios".

"I should be involved in the appointment, like with (Venezuelan interim President) Delcy (Rodriguez) in Venezuela," he added.

Mojtaba Khamenei, son of Iran's late supreme leader, survived the US and Israeli strikes on the Islamic Republic on Saturday that killed his father, Ali Khamenei, Reuters noted, citing Iranian sources.

A mid-ranking cleric with close ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the hardliner Mojtaba is one of the most influential figures in Iran's spiritual establishment and is seen as his father's presumed successor, Reuters noted. Iran has yet to announce its new leader.

The Iranian military said earlier today that it had launched a drone attack on a key US military base in northwestern Kuwait, on the sixth day of the war in the Middle East, Agence France-Presse reported.

"Our naval drones attacked a site at the US military base in Kuwait," the Iranian military said in a statement broadcast on state television.
