Tehran says it fired cluster munitions at Israel VIDEO - 1

Iranian forces have fired two new waves of missiles at Israel, including cluster munitions, the DPA reported, citing Iranian media.

“Rocket rain on the road to Tel Aviv“ Iranian state television captioned a video clip purporting to show the light trails of cluster munitions. Israel has been on alert.

The use of cluster munitions is largely banned internationally because they spread explosives uncontrollably over large areas and are particularly dangerous for civilians. The Israeli military had previously accused Iran of firing cluster munitions at Israel.

Loud explosions were heard in the coastal metropolis of Tel Aviv. There were no initial reports of casualties, but there was talk of damage from rocket debris.

The Israeli military said its air defense systems were in action to intercept the missiles.

Meanwhile, the “Iranian leadership trio“, appointed for the transition period following the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, have been granted additional powers. The interim leadership council has been given the authority to declare peace and war, Iranian media reported. According to them, the council can also “appoint and dismiss military and police officials“.

The decision was made by the “Council of Expediency“ - an important arbitration body in the Iranian government.

The current leadership trio consists of President Masoud Pezeshkian, Supreme Court Chief Justice Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, and cleric Ayatollah Alireza Arafi. They will manage state affairs until a new religious leader is appointed.
