Iran has attacked a building in Bahrain housing a group of officers serving in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Joint Maritime Operations Center, the regional organization's secretary-general, Jassim al-Budaiwi, said.

“The building attacked by Iran housed Qatari naval officers participating in the GCC Joint Maritime Operations Center“, al-Budaiwi said, as quoted by Sky News Arabia.

The GCC secretary-general called the Iranian attack “a hostile act that violates all international laws and norms“.

Al-Budaiwi did not say whether Qatari naval officers were injured in the Iranian attack.

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is a regional alliance of the Arab states of the Persian Gulf.
Its members are Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Its goals are economic integration (including plans for a common currency "Khaleeji"), political stability and military defense through a joint force "Peninsula Shield".

Earlier this month, the GCC countries held emergency meetings with the European Union to discuss regional security and energy stability.
