Politico: US, Ukraine Discuss Help in Countering Iranian Drones - 1

Pentagon officials visited Ukraine last week to discuss possible help from Kiev in countering Iran's drone strikes in the Middle East, Politico reported, citing its sources.

The newspaper assessed that the use of "cheap and easy-to-produce drones in Iran has exposed the vulnerability of the United States and its allies in the region." This has forced the US administration to seek a deal with Ukraine in which Kiev would transfer Washington's technology to counter UAVs, which, according to the publication, gives Kiev “a small short-term advantage“ over the United States.

US General Matt Ross, together with representatives of the interagency unit he heads, responsible for developing and providing capabilities to combat UAVs, “was in Ukraine last week to continue developing a plan“ for the transfer of anti-drone technology to Ukraine. The deal has not yet been concluded, the newspaper emphasizes.

On March 5, US President Donald Trump said in an interview with Reuters, responding to a question about Ukraine, that he was ready to accept help from any country in a military operation against Iran. According to Reuters, Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier said that Ukraine had received a specific request from the United States for help in repelling Iranian retaliatory strikes using drones.
