The Israeli army has announced that it will continue to monitor and take action against any potential successor to Iran's supreme leader, Reuters reports, citing a military post on the Farsi-language social media platform “X“, BTA reports.
The statement specifies that Israel will also monitor anyone who tries to appoint a successor to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, given the spiritual body responsible for choosing a new supreme leader of the Islamic Republic.
According to a statement by the Iranian Fars agency, the Assembly of Experts - the body tasked with choosing the next supreme leader - is due to meet “in the next 24 hours“. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed on the first day of the Israeli-American strikes, accelerating the process of determining a successor.
