"Alternative for Germany" won nearly 19 percent of the vote in Sunday's regional elections in the German federal state of Baden-Württemberg, according to the latest figures from AERD television.
The party came in third place after the Greens and the Christian Democrats, who shared 60 percent of the vote. Markus Frohnmeier, the party's leading candidate, declared the result a great success for the party.
"Just think about where we started from - from around 9.7 percent. I am proud that in the shortest possible time we have become the largest and strongest opposition party in this federal state. Just look at the once proud Social Democratic People's Party or the Liberals. "Now they are all trembling to see if they will enter the Landtag," said Frohnmeier.
