Hundreds of thousands of Iranians took part in organized marches last night to mark the election of Mojtaba Khamenei as the country's new supreme leader after the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iranian state media reported, quoted by DPA.
The marchers swore allegiance to the new leader despite the threat of US and Israeli attacks.
State television showed people and cars waving the Iranian flag. The demonstrators vowed to continue the current conflict with the US and Israel “until final victory“.
The 56-year-old new supreme leader was appointed to succeed his father as spiritual and political leader late on Sunday night – ten days after the death of Khamenei, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike.
