The Israeli army announced that it had detected a new salvo of missiles fired from Iranian territory towards Israel. Air defense systems were activated, the agencies reported.
"The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) detected the launch of missiles from Iran towards Israel. "Air defense systems are ready to repel the threat," the IDF said in a Telegram message.
AFP reporters heard sirens wailing in Jerusalem and explosions, and the IDF said it had begun intercepting the rockets.
The Israeli army later allowed people to leave bomb shelters.
"Magen David Adom, Israel's equivalent of the Red Cross, said it was assisting "a small number of people who were injured while running to shelters."
Israel's Channel 12 reported that several people were injured in Iranian strikes in the Tel Aviv area.
Iran's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had launched a missile attack on Israel as well as on US targets in the Middle East, including the Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain and sites in Iraqi Kurdistan.
The Israeli army said it had launched a "wave of strikes" in Tehran, shortly after new explosions were heard in the Iranian capital, Agence France-Presse reported.
"The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched a new wave of strikes on targets of the terrorist Iranian regime in Tehran," the IDF said on its official Telegram account.
Iran's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had attacked US bases in Bahrain and Iraqi Kurdistan, Iranian media reported.
According to a statement released by the Iranian Tasnim news agency, the Guards said they had fired a large number of missiles at the US Navy's Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain and three sites in Iraqi Kurdistan.
