US President Donald Trump called Israeli President Isaac Herzog “weak and pathetic“ for his comments about the need for a legal opinion on the possible pardon of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“He doesn't need any legal opinion. He's weak and pathetic. I want Bibi to focus on the war, not on this nonsense“, the head of the Washington administration said in an interview with Axios. He noted that he spoke with Netanyahu by phone on March 10 about the progress of the US-Israeli military operation against Iran.
Herzog said in an interview with Fox News last week that a pardon for Netanyahu is not on the agenda because of the war with Iran. The president of the Jewish state noted that he “must wait for the conclusions of the relevant authorities before making any decision“ on this issue.
Spain is having a negative impact on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and Washington, as it has previously warned, could cut off trade with Madrid, Trump also said.
“I don't know what Spain is doing. They're doing a very bad job with NATO. They're protected and they don't want to contribute their fair share. And they've been doing that for many years“, Trump told reporters on the South Lawn of the White House before leaving for a working trip to Ohio and Kentucky.
“They're not cooperating at all. They're doing a very bad job. We could cut off trade with Spain,“ the president said. "The people in Spain are fantastic, but the leadership is not so good," he added.
Tensions between Madrid and Washington have increased since the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran. Spain initially opposed them. Spain then announced that it was against the use of bases located in the country by the United States during the operation against Iran.
