Russia lost the "Express-AT1" satellite, which provided broadcasting of resources in the occupied territories of Ukraine. The spacecraft went out of order on March 4 for unknown reasons and is not subject to restoration, ASTRA reports, quoted by Focus.
As stated in the state company that owns the satellite "Kosmicheskiy zv'yazok", attempts to restore its operation have not yielded results and "now the satellite can be considered lost".
A new satellite "Express-AT3" will appear in orbit no earlier than 2030. The sudden shutdown of "Express-AT1" interrupted the broadcasting of major television channels, in particular the operators "NTV-Plus", "Tricolor" and "Russian World".
"Tricolor" managed to find a temporary solution – to start broadcasting from the foreign satellite ABS-2A (a company based in the UAE) and ask subscribers to retune their antennas. "Russian World" cannot afford to broadcast from foreign satellites due to sanctions. The operator was created in 2022 to broadcast in the occupied territories of Ukraine.
