During talks with South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, US President Donald Trump said that his meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un could take place during his visit to China or later.
This was reported by the South Korean Prime Minister, quoted by the Yonhap news agency.
„President Trump said that the meeting would be a good thing. He said that the meeting could take place during his visit to China or later“, said Kim Min-seok. „Time is not the main issue“, suggested the South Korean Prime Minister.
Kim Min-seok met with Trump in Washington, where they discussed past contacts between the leaders of the United States and North Korea. During the conversation, Kim Min-seok proposed several ideas for dialogue with Pyongyang. According to the South Korean side, during the conversation, Trump instructed his aides to consider diplomatic measures towards North Korea. Kim Min-seok did not reveal the specific steps being discussed.
During the conversation, the US president asked the prime minister whether North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was interested in dialogue with Washington. He replied that Trump was the only Western politician who could resolve the problems on the Korean Peninsula. Trump reiterated that he had maintained a good personal relationship with Kim Jong-un.
In February, during the congress of the Workers' Party of Korea, Kim Jong-un stated that North Korea was ready to improve relations with the United States if Washington abandoned its hostile policy towards Pyongyang.
