Donald Trump considers a possible meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un a "good thing", said South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok after his meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington yesterday, reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.
Trump told his South Korean guest that such a meeting could take place during his planned visit to China from March 31 to April 2, although he did not make a specific commitment.
The South Korean prime minister stressed that even if a meeting does not take place in the near future, the most important thing is the renewal of dialogue between Washington and Pyongyang.
During his first term, Trump met three times with Kim Jong-un in an attempt to reach an agreement on denuclearization of North Korea, but the talks have not yielded any concrete results. In recent months, the US administration has stepped up its efforts to resume contacts, AFP notes.
In October last year, Trump said he was “100% open” to a new meeting with the North Korean leader. In February, Pyongyang signaled that relations could improve if the US recognized North Korea as a nuclear power.
Meanwhile, the North Korean state news agency KCNA reported that Kim Jong-un had observed tests of strategic cruise missiles while the US and South Korea were conducting their annual joint military exercises.
In early March, North Korea condemned the US-Israeli strikes on Iran, calling them an “illegal act of aggression”.
