The next presidential elections in Kazakhstan will be held in 2029 in accordance with the current Constitution. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced this while answering questions from journalists, a Kazinform correspondent reported.

„Some experts suggest that the constitutional reform is a preparation for the transition of power and the upcoming presidential elections. Why was the position of vice president needed? How would you comment on this?“, a media representative asked.

The president noted that various discussions are taking place around this position, but there is no reason for concern.

„I am aware that there is a lot of talk about the position of vice president. In fact, such a position exists in a number of foreign countries. Some experts believe that competition for power is supposedly intensifying in Kazakhstan and various trends are growing that cause concern.“ However, there is no reason to fear that this will negatively affect society, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev assured.

According to him, the creation of the position of vice president will strengthen the institutions of state power and this will manifest itself in the future.

“As president, I have high hopes for this position, as well as for all reforms in general. And the next presidential elections will be held, as planned, within the deadlines established by the current Constitution – in 2029“, the head of state added.
