Over 73% of Kazakhstanis exercised their right to vote in the referendum on a new constitution of the country. Nearly 87% voted "for" the new version of the country's highest law.
"The citizens of Kazakhstan have demonstrated a vivid example of unity, solidarity, patriotism and shared responsibility for the fate of their homeland. ... This people's constitution will lead us to new achievements and successes, there is no doubt about that. A record high voter turnout was registered. I thank everyone who came to the polls and clearly expressed their civic position. In this way, we demonstrated to the world the political culture of our Kazakh society. Where there is unity, there is life! Where there is unity, there is prosperity! In unity lies the strength of a country! In order for Kazakhstan to become a progressive, advanced and competitive country, it is extremely important to maintain peace and friendship, to demonstrate patience and perseverance, creativity and diligence, hard work and responsibility,“ the President noted.
According to the head of state, the Constitution, which received national support and was approved by the citizens, is an important guideline for the development of our state.
“The new Constitution is the foundation of our independence and sovereignty.“ “ “The Basic Law is an unshakable guarantee of human rights and freedoms.“ As a united nation, we have taken an important step towards building a just society in which law and order are strictly observed, and citizens are characterized by a high degree of responsibility and creativity. Today we have opened a new page in the history of the country. We have a lot of work ahead of us. Most importantly, our people resolutely support deep transformations. I sincerely believe that by joining forces in the name of common interests, we will leave a progressive and advanced Kazakhstan to future generations. I express my sincere gratitude to the young people who actively participated in the referendum! It is gratifying that they made a strong statement during this campaign. May our sacred Independence be eternal! May our beloved Motherland, the Republic of Kazakhstan, prosper! I congratulate everyone on the adoption of the new Constitution!, said Kassam-Jomart Tokayev.
“Without a doubt, this day will forever remain in the annals of the country. From now on, March 15 will be celebrated as the Day of the Constitution - the main document of our state.“ “I have read the constitutions of many countries and I can confidently say that our Basic Law is among the most progressive“, said the head of state.
According to him, the Basic Law includes important concepts such as volunteerism, science, innovation and artificial intelligence.
“A large-scale campaign was conducted. We have a lot of work ahead of us. The parliamentary elections will be held this summer and we must hold them united, as one country. I believe that this should be a youth parliament“, said Kassam-Jomart Tokayev.
The young activists reported that during the month they held approximately 5,000 different events, attended by over 1.5 million citizens. They also expressed their full support for all reforms being implemented in the country at the initiative of the head of state.
