Airline cancels hundreds of flights due to oil price spike - 1

Scandinavian airline SAS (SAS) announced that it is canceling around 100 flights this week due to the surge in oil prices caused by the war in the Middle East, Agence France-Presse reported, BTA reported.

Most of the canceled flights affect domestic routes in Norway, with only a small number related to Sweden and Denmark, according to the airline.

“Given the current situation in the Middle East, particularly the sharp and sudden increase in global fuel prices, we are taking steps to strengthen our resilience“, the company announced in a statement to AFP.

“One of these measures includes the cancellation of a limited number of short-haul flights“, SAS reported.

The price of Brent crude from the North Sea has repeatedly exceeded $100 a barrel in recent days due to the war in the Middle East.

Israeli and American strikes on Iran and Iran's retaliatory measures against several Gulf countries have damaged numerous oil facilities, and the Strait of Hormuz, through which one-fifth of the world's hydrocarbon demand usually passes, is practically closed.

Some airlines such as “Air France-KLM“ (Air France-KLM), “Cathay Pacific“ (Cathay Pacific), “Air India“ (Air India) “Qantas“ (Qantas), as well as SAS itself, have increased their ticket prices to compensate for the rise in the price of kerosene.
