Former Israeli national security adviser Eyal Hulata told CNN that a large number of Iranians on the ground are cooperating with the Israeli military campaign - not as recruited agents, but as opponents of the regime who have requested help after being subjected to a bloody crackdown on protests two months ago, presenting the operations as mutual assistance for their freedom.
"Both Israel and the US have extremely precise and superior intelligence capabilities. It is not just Israeli intelligence that is involved in this. And the level of penetration in Iran is significant, by the way," said Khoulata.
"But there is another element to this, which is the participation of the Iranian people. The Iranians themselves understand the magnitude of the opportunity that is presented here and are actively involved in ways that we have not seen before, providing this type of information.
So some of these targets, while they are in hiding, are recognized by people on the ground who understand that this is important to their ability to prevail over time, and provide extensive information about the whereabouts of these officers, their hiding places, where they are, and then, of course, the intelligence community, whether it is Israeli or American, has to verify this," added Ayal Hulata.
"We do not just bomb without knowing exactly where the target is, but we can do it when we get this important information in real time.
And the proof is ultimately in the list of photos that you showed on the screen. It has been proven to be very effective," added Hulata.
