Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced today that Ukrainian negotiators have left for the US and expect to meet on Saturday for new talks aimed at finding a solution to the four-year-old war between Kiev and Moscow, Ukrinform and Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
„There was a pause in the negotiations, it's time to end them. And we are doing everything to make the negotiations truly meaningful“, Zelensky said in his evening video address.
“The Ukrainian team - namely the political part of the negotiating group - is already on its way, and this Saturday we expect a meeting in the United States“, the head of state of Ukraine noted.
Russia will increase the protection of high-ranking military officials after a series of murders and attempted murders, for which it blames Ukraine, said the director of the Federal Security Service Alexander Bortnikov, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.
The protection of high-ranking figures in Russia from the rank of the first deputy head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev, will be strengthened, Bortnikov told the collegium of the Prosecutor General's Office, quoted by TASS.
On February 6, against Alekseev, first deputy head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces armed forces, an attempt was made on his life, in which he was shot three times, but survived. The attack took place in the apartment building where he lived in Moscow. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has opened a criminal case for attempted murder. Ukraine denies involvement in the attempt. Bortnikov said today that Alekseev's condition is improving.
