Romania expressed readiness to contribute to security in the Strait of Hormuz - 1

Romanian President Nikosor Dan announced last night that Romania joins the joint declaration of the countries that expressed their readiness to contribute to ensuring the safety of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, Agerpres reported, BTA reported.

The declaration was signed on Thursday initially by Britain, France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands, and was later joined by other countries, including those outside Europe - Japan, Canada, South Korea, New Zealand, Denmark, Latvia, Slovenia, Estonia, Norway, Sweden, Finland, the Czech Republic, Bahrain and Lithuania.

„Romania's joining this initiative comes against the backdrop of the serious consequences that the closure of the (Hormuz) Strait has for global energy markets, as well as for the world economy. The effects are also tangible in Romania, especially in terms of fuel prices. In this sense, we are ready to participate in the efforts of the international community, which will lead to keeping prices at a bearable level for the population“, the Romanian president wrote on Facebook.

He added that Romania maintains its clear decision not to be drawn into the conflict in the Middle East. “We are working together with international partners for de-escalation“, said Nikusor Dan.

France, Britain, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Japan today condemned Iranian attacks on civilian energy infrastructure in the Persian Gulf and said they “are ready to cooperate to ensure security in the Strait of Hormuz”, reported Agence France-Presse.

“We insist on an immediate and complete moratorium on attacks on civilian infrastructure, and in particular on oil and gas facilities. "We declare our readiness to support the efforts necessary to ensure the safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz," the parties said in a joint statement.
