The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a joint statement from 22 countries expressing their readiness to contribute to ensuring the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
„We express our readiness to contribute to appropriate measures to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. “We welcome the commitment of the countries involved in the preparedness planning,” a statement posted on the ministry’s website said.
The statement was signed by Australia, Bahrain, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Italy, Canada, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates, Romania, Slovenia, Finland, France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Estonia, South Korea and Japan.
The signatories also noted that closing the Strait of Hormuz violates the principles of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, disrupting global supply chains and posing a threat to the entire world.
