China: The situation in the Middle East could become uncontrollable - 1

China warned today that there is a risk that the situation in the Middle East could become uncontrollable if US President Donald Trump carries out his threat to destroy Iranian power plants, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA.

“If the war escalates and the situation worsens further, the entire region could find itself in an uncontrollable situation“, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jiang said at a regular press conference.

Donald Trump said that the US will “destroy“ Iranian power plants if Tehran does not open the Strait of Hormuz by tomorrow night.

Lin Jiang reiterated China's call for an immediate ceasefire. "The use of force will only lead to a vicious circle," he stressed.

China, Iran's economic and political partner, has strongly condemned the US and Israeli strikes. It has also indirectly criticized Iran's strikes on countries in the region and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, AFP reported.

Beijing has also sought to discreetly defuse tensions through diplomatic channels.

Experts say it is unlikely, despite the impact on China's oil imports, that the country will sacrifice its interests and confront the US to help Iran, Agence France-Presse noted.
