The trilateral talks to settle the Ukrainian conflict are on hold, but the Russian side maintains contacts with the American side and discusses primarily the "Ukrainian issue", said Yuri Ushakov, Russian President Vladimir Putin's foreign policy advisor, quoted by TASS, BTA reported today.
"There is currently a pause in the trilateral talks. We have contacts with the Americans, but we see that the Ukrainians are also actively negotiating with them. Currently, the American negotiators, we know who we are talking about, are busy with something else, with another problem to a greater extent,", Ushakov told journalists.
He stated this in response to a request to explain whether there can currently be talk of a pause in contacts with the Americans on the Ukrainian issue. Ushakov also answered the question of whether the American side informs the Russian side about the progress of its negotiations with the Ukrainians. "The process of contacts continues and in the course of these contacts we discuss, I would say, primarily the Ukrainian issue", Ushakov said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held talks today via videoconference with negotiators from US President Donald Trump's team regarding the peace process for his country, Ukrinform and DPA reported, referring to a statement by the Ukrainian head of state in "Ex", BTA reports.
Zelensky wrote that US special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, as well as Senator Lindsey Graham, participated on the American side. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also took part in the video conference, the Ukrainian leader added.
“Ukraine appreciates all the efforts that America is making to achieve a dignified peace“, Zelensky said.“
“We agreed that our teams will continue to work closely in the coming days to strengthen the document on security guarantees between Ukraine and the United States. This is what can pave the way for a reliable end to the war“, the Ukrainian president stressed.
Zelensky did not provide further details about today's talks.
