A Ukrainian military officer in charge of Ukraine's conscription service was fatally stabbed in the neck on Monday while handing out draft papers in the western city of Lviv, authorities said, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.
This is the latest sign of tension over mobilization as part of Kiev's war effort.
Ukraine is suffering from a shortage of soldiers as it tries to fend off Russia's larger and better-equipped army in the fifth year of the war, the agency notes.
The national police said in a statement that an unknown man stabbed the conscription officer and then fled the scene. The officer later died in hospital, and a search for the perpetrator has begun.
Ukrainian conscription officers are often accused of rough and excessive behavior, and videos of them clashing with citizens often appear on social media, the agency added.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov promised after his appointment in January that reforming the country's mobilization system would be his top priority.
Conscription offices have also been the target of bomb attacks, with Ukrainian authorities blaming Russia for this.
