March 2: Three F-15s were shot down by Kuwaiti anti-aircraft forces in a "friendly fire" incident over Kuwait. All six crew members ejected safely, and US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said this week that the three pilots had returned to action in attacks on Iran, CNN recalls.
March 12: Six US aircrew members were killed when their KC-135 tanker plane crashed in Iraq. The U.S. military said the refueling plane was not shot down by enemy or friendly fire, but was involved in an incident with another plane while participating in Operation Epic Fury. The second plane landed safely, they said.
March 27: A U.S. Air Force E-3 Sentry air-to-air warning and control plane was destroyed on the runway in an Iranian attack on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, images geolocated by CNN show. CNN reported that at least 10 U.S. service members were injured in the attack on the air base. There were no reports of casualties. A U.S. Air Force tanker plane was also damaged, sources said.
In addition, a U.S. F-35 fighter jet made an emergency landing at a U.S. air base in the Middle East last month after being hit by suspected Iranian fire, two sources familiar with the matter told CNN.
