According to a new sociological survey: "Alternative for Germany" overtakes Chancellor Merz's conservatives - 1

The far-right party “Alternative for Germany“ overtook Chancellor Friedrich Merz's conservatives in a new sociological survey, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

Merz's Christian Democratic Union and their partner Christian Social Union have lost one percentage point, reaching 25%, according to the INSA survey for the Sunday edition of the newspaper "Bild".

The position of "Alternative for Germany", the largest opposition party in the country, remains unchanged from last week with a 26% rating. The party, known for its anti-immigrant stance, is under surveillance by domestic intelligence services for its extremist views, but in 2025 it climbed to second place in the parliamentary elections.

In third place are Merz's coalition partners, the Social Democrats, who have 13%, or one percentage point less than in the previous poll.

The opposition forces of the German Greens and the “Left“ remain unchanged at 12% and 11%, respectively.

The margin of error is 2.9 percentage points, with 1,199 participants surveyed in the poll.
